WACWISA Supports First International Programme Accreditation in UDS

The West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) has supported the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment (FNRE) and the School of Engineering (SoE)to obtain International Accreditation for three (3) study programmes at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The accreditation was obtained for the following study programmes:

1. Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Irrigation and Drainage Engineering hosted at the Department of Agricultural Engineering.
2. Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Environmental Management and Sustainability hosted at the Department of Environment and Sustainability Sciences.
3. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Management and Sustainability hosted at the Department of Environment and Sustainability Sciences.

Led by expert team from the Agency for Quality Assurance (AQAS) in Germany, the accreditation process involved WACWISA supporting the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA), Graduate School, FNRE and SoE  as well as their Departments in the preparation of the accreditation documents, payment of accreditation fees, facilitation of field/site visit by the accreditation team and correspondence with the institution.

The expert team inspected facilities at WACWISA and interacted with staff, students and management of WACWISA as well as the two departments. After the assessment, the three (3) study programmes were said to have met the European Higher Education Area (ESG) Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance. AQAS e.V. is recognised by and/or member of the following organisations: The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (aqar), Zugelassene Agenturen, Akkreditierungsrat, The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (enQa), The European Consortium for Accreditation in Higher Education (ECA) and The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE)
