The West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in collaboration with the Women’s Economic Empowerment-North (WEE-North) Project implemented by Alinea Foundation is undertaking a 4-week intensive Short Course Training in Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS). The practical training that started on the 14th July will end on the 8th August and will be delivered at WACWISA. The training will include theoretical and practical hands-on using facilities of the experimental field and solar-powered irrigation systems. The overall aim of the training is to empower twenty (20) young females in various irrigation and related courses on SPIS.
Modules to be covered during the training include: Basics of irrigation and solar-powered irrigation systems, Water quality testing and irrigation techniques (drip, sprinkler, spray tube), Health, safety, and environmental considerations, Solar PV systems: components, installation, and maintenance, Practical design and hands-on field installation, Business development and sustainability and Gender inclusivity and community engagement.
