A delegation led by the Coordinator, Prof. Daouda Mama, of the National Water Institute of the University of Abomey Calavi (C2EA-INE) in Benin has paid a two-day working visit to the West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture of the University for Development Studies (WACWISA-UDS). The delegation also included Dr. Aymar Bossa, Dr. N’Tcha M’po, Ing. Dr. Elegbede Manou Bernadin, whose mission was to outline common interest for collaboration through interaction with management, staff and students of WACWISA-UDS.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice Chancellor of UDS, Prof. Gabriel A. Teye, commended the delegation for choosing to visit and explore areas of collaboration with UDS. He revealed that it is possible for the two centres to find common interest of collaboration because WACWISA-UDS and C2EA-INE have common theme of addressing water related challenges in the sub-region. The Director of International Relations and Advancement, Prof. C. K. S. Sabah, revealed that there will be a positive outcome of their visit as the two institutions can sign an MoU to guide their activities. Prof. Daouda Mama on his part, expressed the warm hospitality by the WACWISA-UDS team and looking forward to a long-term mutual benefit between the two Centres.
The Director of WACWISA, Ing. Prof. Felix K. Abagale expressed his delight about the delegations choice of WACWISA-UDS as their first point of call on their visit to Ghana. The Director revealed, “We are happy about the quality of the interactions and ideas the two teams shared, which he said was in the spirit of south-south cooperation and also, within the framework of inter-ACE networking and collaborations within the sub-region”.
WACWISA-UDS and C2EA-INE outlined the following areas of interest for collaboration:
- Students’ exchange visits/internships
- Language training programmes
- Joint online/physical/ blended professional short-term courses
- Staff and students’ mobility/exchanges/co-teaching/co-supervision
- Sharing of laboratory facilities
- Co-research and grant applications/publications
- Joint student degree programmes
- Joint scientific conferences, workshops and seminars
