Shaping Research through Eye-Tracking Design Workshop

Shaping Research through Eye-Tracking Design Workshop

On Thursday, 29th May 2025, the West African Centre for Water, Irrigation, and Sustainable Agriculture at the University for Development Studies (WACWISA-UDS) hosted a groundbreaking Eye-Tracking Workshop. This event, supported by the Director of WACWISA, Prof. Felix K. Abagale, and Prof. Gordana Kranjac-Berisavljevic, brought together faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students to explore the transformative potential of eye-tracking technologies in academic and climate-related research.

Held at the WACWISA Auditorium on the Nyankpala Campus, the workshop was part of the Eye on the Climate initiative under the Clear Climate Project. It served as a pivotal platform for sharing insights, fostering innovation, and building capacity in the use of eye-tracking technology. The workshop emphasized how eye-tracking can enrich both qualitative and quantitative data, offering new dimensions to existing academic projects. Discussions underscored the versatility of eye-tracking, demonstrating its potential across diverse fields such as climate science, psychology, education, and beyond.

The workshop introduced participants to state-of-the-art eye-tracking tools and their applications, emphasizing their role in enhancing research outcomes. Through hands-on training, attendees learned how to design and conduct eye-tracking experiments using web-based platforms, making the technology more accessible and scalable.  Participants engaged with real-time eye-tracking interfaces, gaining firsthand experience in using the technology to collect and analyze data.  The workshop also highlighted the role of eye-tracking in improving data collection and storytelling, which are critical for designing climate services, co-producing knowledge, and enhancing outreach efforts. Attendees explored how this technology can provide deeper insights into human-environment interactions, ultimately contributing to more effective climate solutions.

The Eye-Tracking Workshop at WACWISA-UDS has set a new benchmark for integrating advanced technologies into academic and climate research, paving the way for future innovations and impactful outcomes.
