Prof. Abdul-Ganiyu Shaibu

Ing. Prof. Abdul-Ganiyu Shaibu had his undergraduate degree from Faculty of Agriculture, University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana with BSc. Agricultural Technology and major in Agricultural Mechanisation and Irrigation Technology in 2002. He was employed by the university (UDS) after National Service as Teaching and Research Assistant to the Department of Agricultural Mechanisation and Irrigation Technology from 2002 to 2006. With his MSc. Degree in Soil and Water Engineering from Department of Agriculture and Bio-Systems Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana he was promoted to the grade of Lecturer in 2007 and to Senior Lecturer in 2013. He then pursued his Ph.D. in 2015 also in Soil and Water Engineering from the same university (KNUST). In March 2019, he was once again promoted to Associate Professor in Soil and Water Engineering. Currently he is the Head of Department of Agricultural Engineering and Vice-Dean of School of Engineering, UDS and also has been teaching both undergraduates and graduate students as well conducting research.
His research interests are in Agricultural Water Management and Soils Survey for Irrigation Development. He has published more than 30 research articles and conference papers, volunteered as a reviewer for more than 30 research papers. He is a member of Ghana Institution of Engineering (GIE). He is also the Academic Programmes Coordinator of West African Centre of Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA), and Adjunct Researcher to Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience (KTCSR), supported by JICA. He has also collaborated on several research and development projects, funded by JICA, JIRCAS, World Bank, World Health Organisation, IWMI, etc., with local and international partners including Conservation Alliance on Bhungroos and Pave systems for dry season irrigation in Northern Ghana.
