Ms Atut Chantal Tiku, a recent MPhil graduate of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering of the University for Development Studies (UDS) with scholarship from the West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) has won the second prize of Vice Chancellor (VC) Business Innovation Award of 2021. Her award includes a cash prize of GHS15,000 and an incubation training as a business owner.
Speaking after the event, Ms Tiku said, “the award gives me the opportunity to develop a business which will better the lives of people by improving on the quality of their protein intake and also a chance for me to participate in job creation and reducing unemployment/ underemployment in Ghana, and Africa”. She was also excited about the competitiveness of the process, where about twenty-six (26) candidates were selected after submission of concept notes. After various assessments and engagements, she placed second (2nd) out of eight (8) candidates who made it to the finals.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Business Innovation Award Scheme (VCBIAS) is part of efforts by the UDS-Business Innovation and Incubation Centre (UDS-BIIC) to identify and support potential entrepreneurs among students of the UDS. The Centre seeks to develop the business acumen of students, alongside academic training, to enable them take advantage of business opportunities available to them under the supportive environment provided by the University.
This year’s award which was organized at UDS on the 28th of October, 2021 was under the theme “The Use of Standards and Packaging in Marketing”.
